Darurat Malaya (The Malayan Emergency) was a guerrilla war fought in pre- and post-independence, from 1948-1960. (12 years, 3 week and 5 days). Darurat was declared to deal with the communists led by Chin Peng. Darurat was also declared during the Malayan- Indonesia Confrontation in 1962, 1966 Sarawak constitutional crisis and 1977 Kelantan Emergency. When a race riot broke out on May 13, 1969, darurat was also declared.
